Starring George Clooney and Renee Zellweger, in this movie, Dodge Connelly (Clooney), captain of a struggling squad of barroom brawlers, has only one hope to save his team: recruit college superstar Carter Rutherford (John Krasinski - known fromThe Office)

If I had listened to some of the priggish critics I would have missed this one - and that would have been a mistake. This was the most fun I've had at a theater in a long time. I usually lean towards "serious films," but sometimes we just want to enjoy watching good actors having a good time on camera. Too many critics seem to think that light comedy is beneath them, but every movie does not have to be "important" or ground-breaking or Oscar-worthy to be worthwhile. That type of critic forgets that "entertainment" is not a dirty word. We could all use a bit of amusement and diversion from time to time. The movie often made me laugh, which is no small feat. Maybe it wasn't perfect, but the fun parts more than make up for that. It's definitely worth a go, if you could use a good time.

Silly, slapstick, and genuinely funny, this film was a joy to watch. Loved the chemistry between the main characters, laughed out loud, and left the theater with a smile on my face. What more can you ask of a night at the movies?

I think this is a screwball comedy and while it has its funny moments, it nevertheless is a little hokey. George Clooney and Rene Zellweger are good and so is John Krasinski. But no matter how you throw the dice, overall, I would say the movie lacks some punch.

Interestingly, it was nice to see how pro- football got started (if in fact this is how it all started), because it looks like the guys were having a lot of genuine fun just being good old boys out having fun while earning a living doing what they loved best.

Unfortunately, as in the case of most successful capitalistic enterprises, the corrupt elements infiltrate the business which is then followed by the government coming in to clean up the corruption.

In this movie, that script is played out in a very nice way and is particularly funny when the game officials initially try to implement the new game rules created by a government appointed pro-football commissioner.
