Silverlight 2.0 and dotNet integration - finally a set of features you can actually use

With new release of Silverlight 2.0, Microsoft has somewhat unified their web presentation layer with existing dotNet environment. While Silverlight version 1.0 was somewhat limited, in 2.0 you are now able to take advantage of Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) and the integrated Graphics Processing Unit layer (GPU) that allows for lower level binding to accelerated displays. The Silverlight 2.0 also integrates with Extensible Application Markup Language (XAML) which has dazzled developers since .Net 3.0. Sharing same codebase, now more than ever, it is easy to unify development of applications that can be presented both as local application via XAML runtime and web based system with Silverlight 2.0.

We will be watching the development in Silverlight arena. Already, the Silverlight video player is being deployed across variety of applications including olympics broadcast by NBC and Netflix was quoted to be working on silverlight based instant player. Silverlight brings DRM that the studios support so for Netflix it is a natural way of progress from existing player to enable mac osx based computers to use instant watch feature. Silverlight will be the first product with approved DRM management for Mac.
