Today I went to Brandsmart USA, a local super warehouse of electronics and electric appliances. All of the Blu-Ray discs were on sale for $18.88 (except boxed sets.) HDDVDs were between 21.88 and 29.99.

Not only that HD-DVDs were not discounted, they only took one shelf while blu-ray had 4 shelves allocated. You could get bluray player for under $300 dollars with rebate. It was in that very same store where in 1998, I was able to get my hands on DVD player for under $450 (and yes that was a very good price at that time for player with component, s-video and composite output.)

For the first time since the format war, all fronts are dominated by bluray. Not only that selection is larger, quality of image is better and format has broader support, now we get better price for movies as well as sub-300 dollar price for the player. The war is over, we'll just have to wait for Toshiba to realize they lost.
