Approximately 49% of world production of diamonds is coming from the continent of Africa. The major producing region is, more specifically, located in southern africa with producer coutries such as Congo (formerly Zaire), Botswana, Ghana, Guinea, South Africa and others. The diamond trade is a major reason behing significant portion of political unrest in africa.
