Replicating SQL server to sql express - setup consideration

Replicating SQL server to sql server express is a challenge to put it mildly. It is not an issue if you set it up correctly and if you sqlserver express edition is installed as default instance even if running on non-default port. So what is the checklist to get that right?

Some of the points to help you get started correctly:

• SQL replication must run on server because SQL express edition does not have agent
• SQL express must be default instance, so make sure you don't have it installed as, for example, MACHINE\SQLEXPRESS, as that will not work with nondefault port.
• SQL replication ignores client settings and always assumes port 1433
• With named instance, replication does not work even with default port
• If you use nondefault port you must enable named pipes else you cannot replicate
• Replication between two servers that are not on same domain requires SQL login, make sure it is enabled on both the server and client
