Domain registration discounts and how you can get better price from GoDaddy

If you have your domain registered with Dotster or GoDaddy, you can lookup discount coupons on retailmenot.com. The coupons will not always for GoDaddy, because GoDaddy really wants to get your last dollar and are deploying tactics that are designed to do so. For example if you register domain, it gets automatically locked and you cannot transfer it out. First two months they will not allow it at all because they liberally interpret registrar requirements and try to justify not allowing transfer for some quality reasons or whatnot. Also they will not allow you to transfer domain in last two months before renewal. In between your domain is locked and in order to transfer it you have to go through their awful interface and figure out how to unlock it and how to get codes that allow transfer. At least they have coupons, right? Well it appears that if your domain expires within 2 months and you are no longer allowed to transfer it out, they disable all discounts on your account. Sounds fair, right? Well not really. I don't have same problem with Dotster.

GoDaddy really does not care about customers - here is how I know it - you go to their website and they offer domain registration for 9.99. If you go to google and search for godaddy registration they offer discount at $6.99. But if you search for domain registration they offer $6.85. Does that sound like they are giving you a good deal if you are a customer and know their name? Not really. Enough said, it's not very fair. Also, I did see ad through adsense for $7.99 so that really throws in another price.
