Finally. SQLServer 2008 has been finalized and released to manufacturing (RTM). This means that we have a final version that is being pressed into DVDs as we speak. This news came in today. Already Microsoft is offering free 4 session SQL Academy 2008. First session is on 5th September 2008 in Ireland, in Dublin.
Now that the server was finalized, question is, how long before we can download the Express Edition of SQL Server 2008. That is on most people's minds. Serious data warehouses will not jump on 2008 immediately, instead they will go through internal testing phase after release, but 2008 Express will get much faster adoption rate as compared to its costly cousins. We have learned that SQL Server 2008 Express will be available for download at the end of August 2008 so it is just few more weeks away.
