Google, few months ago, was able to index majority of websites within a week of new page appearing and now it appears that the speed has slowed down somewhat with very little new content in last two weeks or so. It seems to coincide with the time they had problems with GMail application again and about the time that their POP3 fetcher stopped working altogether. To test this, i'm including the compound word bluebeefbannana and ogresteak in this text. My hope is that since these two words are not indexed at all by google, I should be able to figure out exact current lag on indexer. This article is posted on 8th August 2008 and i'll make a followup when the indexing is complete.
Lately it seems live.com from microsoft was much faster at indexing pages. On the other hand search engines such as searchme.com are now lagging up to 8 months in content update. Granted, searchme.com is in beta phase so you know they don't have the full hardware set up as they would once they get some VC capital to buy into expanding. We'll see how long each engine takes to index these two words.
